Our Story
The ACFS story began in 2011 when Jim and Linda Jones returned home from one of many international medical mission trips, they had been a part of as nursing professionals. Both of them had seen hunger in every place they had visited and now God was revealing the struggles of the families living right here in Central Alabama. They knew somebody needed to do something. They responded to the challenge of battling food insecurity in their own community by providing food to those in need out of the back of Jim's truck. This quickly grew to over 300 children being served twice a month in high poverty neighborhoods. Now almost 2,100 bags of food are sent home each week through our local schools so these students will have nutritious food options to get them through the weekend.
In 2013 ACFS added a family distribution model to serve the most vulnerable in our communities. With a focus on children, seniors, veterans and those walking through crisis this ministry is bringing hundreds of volunteers together as we provide food and hope to those that need it most. This year we are serving over 1,100 families with supplemental boxes of groceries each month.
God has faithfully provided the resources ACFS has needed. Jim and Linda along with an incredible team of people are willing to serve have responded to the call of "loving our neighbors". Feeding America has determined that one out of every four people in our state don't know where their next meal might come from. We invite you to become a champion for a child or a family that truly needs our help. Our mission is to offer food and hope to the hungry. Our vision is to cultivate a community where food insecurity does not exist. We hope you will join us in the fight! Together with God's help we can make a difference.
