Services We Offer
The Backpack Program
The Backpack Program helps meet the needs of hungry children by providing them with nutritious and easy-to-prepare food to take home on weekends and school vacations when other resources are not available. To become a Backpack Program sponsor, contact our Director, Gene Rogers at (256) 346-3490.
HOW IT WORKS
Teachers and school counselors identify students who would benefit from the Backpack Program. Then ACFS is given the number of children in need at the school. The children's identities remain anonymous to ACFS, donors, and their peers.
With the help of volunteers, ACFS prepares the bag of food, which are placed discreetly in children's backpacks on Friday afternoon for them to take home over the weekend.
SUPPORT A CHILD
- $150 will sponsor a child for an entire school year. Make an online donation today.
- Volunteer to help pack bags for the program.
- Become an advocate. Many are unaware of the severity and extent of child hunger in our communities. By promoting the program, you can help spread the word about child hunger and the ways we work to alleviate it.
Food Distribution Program
Our drive-thru site provides food support by providing two boxes of fresh produce, non-perishable food, meat, frozen, dairy, bread/sweets and snacks into the trunk of a vehicle to help feed a family.
To make an appointment to start receiving food either call the Hotline phone at (938) 201-2129 or use our portal website by clicking on the "Get Food" button below. If calling the hotline, please leave a message with your name and phone number and we will return your call within a reasonable amount of time.
